Watering the Plants with Luna

Not until after I designed this mini-image did I realise how visual perception, cognition and knowledge are brought together, the question "What time is best?" to water the plants, possess a very interesting response.

Weekly Target Award

Click on top of image for zoom effect.
Seems ages since I last posted, and I was blaming my lovely laptop but turned out to be the incompatibility between certain software programs.

In continuation to one of my previous posts on self-esteem
I designed this award for some of those weeks when you know someone really deserves to be recognised for all their hard work.

If you have a look in my box (right hand column) you can find a blank copy of the award in pdf. format (search: weeklytarget) to download. It's great feeling to be recognised.

Have we been overlooking a major direction?

· Thinking in Pictures
· Disorientation
· Struggling with traditional academic learning
· Self-Esteem fluctuating

Does the above sound a bell? These are some of the symptoms that effect people struggling with Dyslexia and yes, you’d be right in thinking that they are also symptoms that affect many Autistic learners.

Here’s some really exciting news that I’d like to share with you all and in turn if you could forward this knowledge on to your friends, that would be wonderful ..... Thank you.

Message From Richard Whitehead - Davis Learning Foundation Director

"How do you explain to others why dyslexia is a gift...
...and how do you explain to teachers how dyslexic thinkers learn best?"

"Why 'Tyrannosaurus' But Not 'If'?" is a new 15-part mentoring course, designed for anyone who is teaching a picture thinker.

The course is absolutely free of charge. Over 15 weeks, it delivers to teachers, tutors, lecturers and home educators incisive insights and strategies - insights and strategies which can be put to use straight away, empowering bright children who have struggled with traditional academic learning.

It would be truly wonderful if you would let any of your friends, contacts and colleagues know about the course who might be interested, or who might benefit from it.

Developing and Maintaining Self-Esteem

Building up and maintaining children’s/young adults’ self-esteem is vital for a positive life.

One idea I made for my son was an achievement book, full of little goals that he had reached during the year.

I purchased a blank A5 size note book, made sketches, glued in personal photos, added magazine cuttings and linked these with achievement wording (see example above). It worked like a treat, before long the achievement book was full, and we were ready to tackle our second booklet.
These merit books still give my son so much 'reflective joy', he is very proud to show them to his family and friends, especially with all the stars.

If you remember Obama’s winning speech from 2008 “Yes We Can”, then try saying “Yes I Can” enough times and you will start believing it.

Remember to write at the beginning of the booklet “Yes I Can”, or another preferable catchy phrase. Now set some reachable goals (example brushing my own teeth, making my own bed) and just go for it!

Everybody loves being shown how well they are doing,
no matter what age.

YES I CAN : YES I CAN : YES I CAN : YES I CAN
